Being a two Generation Parent, I have learned that kids love to go on bike rides but they really don’t like to ride back home. Light Rail has provided one of the best outdoor experiences for those of us with kids who love to ride bikes. I put the bikes on the back of the SUV or Convertible and drive to a light rail station. The one closest to my house is the Nine Mile Station. Parking is free! Take the bikes off and head out on the bike trail right by the station. We ride from light rail/Cherry Creek Reservoir to downtown Denver. Going very slowly with a couple of breaks takes about two hours. Once downtown you can wander around the 16th street mall, get an ice cream or lunch and then jump on light rail back to the car. It’s amazing how far kids will ride, they absolutely love it.
Another location I tried was from the Littleton light rail station to Downtown Denver. This ride is mostly along the river and is a wonderful ride. It’s so nice for the family since you are on the trail 99% of the time. It’s very rare that you have to cross a street or worry about cars. If you try this out with your kids, please leave a comment as to what you thought about the ride!
